Twines & Yarns

Whats the difference between rope, twines & yarns?

Rope and twines and yarns are all made from twisted or braided fibers or strands. Both rope and twine can be made from natural or synthetic fibers, such as jute, sisal, polypropylene, polyester, and nylon.

  • Ropes can be used for heavy-duty applications like climbing, sailing, and construction. Ropes are generally used for fishing and marine craft and in construction for dragging or lifting.

  • Twine is usually made from a few strands of yarn that are twisted together. Twine is commonly used for crafts, decoration, textiles, gardening, construction, and securing materials. Natural fibers like cotton, wool, sisal, and jute can be used to make twine.

  • Yarn is made from natural fibers like sheep wool, silk from silkworms, or plant fibers like cotton and linen. It can also be made from synthetic fibers like nylon, acrylic, and polyester. Yarn is the primary material for making fabrics, including clothing, home textiles, and upholstery.
